We are committed to serve God in different capacities through the assistance and care of the sick and suffering in the Hospitals, the aged in the Nursing Homes and Homes for the Aged, by educating the illiterate and ignorant through Educational Institutions, Equipping /Professionalising the youth through Nursing Schools , those addicted to various substances and alcohol through Treatment, Counseling and Rehabilitation Centers , rich and poor alike making them to experience the real presence of God in their lives and encouraging them. (We dedicate ourselves to the work of mercy but above all to the service of the sick.)
Empowered by God to be a living witness of God’s love, compassion and care and strive to free the humanity from the bondage of sickness and suffering of whatever kind as far as possible.

The Congregation was founded on 16 May 1821 by the Princess Teresa Orsini Doria. She saw and was touched (moved) by the deteriorating state of the assistance given to the sick in the Medical college hospital known as St. John’s Hospital in Lateran, Rome, Italy. Our Princess, with a pure and true spirit of love, compassion and charity dedicated herself to the service of the sick.
On May 16 1821, having obtained the consent of the Hospital Authority and with the Authorization of His Holiness Pope Pius VII, Princess Teresa joyously accompanied the first four “Dame di Carita“ “(Ladies of Charity) to St. John’s Hospital Lateran, Rome. This is how the journey of the Hospitaller Sisters of Mercy began.
In the year 1826 with his Apostolic Authority, Gregory XVI the then Pope approved the Congregation of the Hospitallers called “Sisters of Mercy” and its Constitution & Directory
Pope Gregory XVI in 1831, on the occasion of the total Consecration of these women to God imparted his Papal blessing on this Institute, expressing his hope and wish that this new Congregation will continue to grow and assist the sick and the needy physically and spiritually. The Congregation is placed under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy and under the patronage of St. Aloysius Gonzaga whose Feasts we celebrate on 16 May and 2st of June respectively.
The Congregation moved out of Rome on the mission of extending their service to the sick and suffering brethren first in the year 1966 to the United States of America (New Jersey), then in 1978 to Kerala, India.
